being in love at the young age of sixteen going on seventeen was....strange. not the being in love part but they way you could be in love and never be able to see or hear from your 'one'. that's what it was like for baylee carson. she was in love whether she wanted to admit it or not. the truth was she wanted to tell brayden barnes how she felt. the only problem? she had no idea if he was seeing someone or where he even was at the time.
what really bothered the junior the most was that all of this was her fault. when life had seemed to be crashing down around her, she did the only thing she could think of. baylee ran. she ran to italy of all places. nothing special was there but she had to convince brayden that she didn't want to be with him which was the farthest thing from the truth.
when baylee had met bray it felt like her life was finally becoming more than just being the spoiled rich girl. she had found love and like the stupid idiot she was, she threw it away. now baylee was at hallington trying to find him and bring him back into her life. after all that time a small part of her was still certain brayden was meant to be with her. even though, to make him go away in the first place, she had convinced herself he deserved way better. maybe he did. she wasn't anything special. baylee had been a bitch to the love of her life and she wouldn't be surprised if he didn't want to have anything to do with her.
have you seen brayden barnes? she asked for what seemed like the hundredth time. baylee had arrived on campus after classes had already started and didn't bother to go. instead she stayed outside in the sunshine repeating that same question to anyone who happened to walk by. the kid shook his head before he continued to walk again. no one seemed to know or didn't bother to tell her. she was, after all, the new kid so maybe they were just ignoring her. baylee dug her phone out of her pocket to check the time. hopefully not much longer and classes would be over for the day.
it was hard to believe that not that long ago she had been in rainy England staring out of her mansion that really no longer belonged to her. in fact by the time she got back all her stuff would probably be gone and her family would have been kicked out. coming to australia really had been a spur of the moment thing. no one knew she was here but it wasn't like there was anyone to tell anyway. the whole reason for being here was because baylee elizabeth carson was tired of feeling sorry for herself. she wanted her happily ever after and she didn't want it with just anyone. so she had finally decided to do something with her life and the first step was finding bray. now here she was waiting in his school yard for the bell to ring.
pulling out of her flashback she heard the bell ring. finally. she said to herself. maybe now she would have a better chance of finding him. she walked up to some girl and repeated the question she had asked all morning. to her surprise the girl nodded and pointed her finger to a couple standing behind baylee. a couple. when she turned around she could feel her heart start to beat faster. everything stopped moving except for those two people across from her. the sixteen year old was positive that that was brayden. her brayden. even though he was allowed to date whoever, it still stung like hell.
without realizing it, her lips parted and his name escaped her mouth. brayden. knowing he could hear her made her cheeks flush. she wasn't sure if it was from embarrassment or from anger. most likely a little bit of both. a shaking hand reached up and pushed her hair out of her eyes. was this really happening? yes it was and it sucked. baylee knew it was selfish and wrong to be angry at him, he wasn't hers, but it was hard knowing he had moved on. that was one of her biggest fears and it had just come true. baylee was barely able to keep the tears from leaving her eyes but was proud of herself for doing so. this was one of the most awkward situations she had ever been in and she didn't know what to do.
