HISTORY
[ background ]
Meet his parents: Lisa Miller and James Carter. Both were very, very wealthy people. Their families owned whole businesses down south. Needless to say, their families approved of their dating. Sadly, this relationship was only summer love. When fall came, they lost feelings for one another, and separated. Their parents were disappointed, but hid that. When Lisa found that she was pregnant, she just couldn't tell James to his face. She wasn't sure how to tell her family, either. Being a girl of only seventeen, these things weren't expected. However, when she told her grandmother, the woman agreed to let her come and live with her for a while, until Lisa could tell her parents what had happened. She moved out to Lover, Pennsylvania, and after hiding everything for about a year, she moved back to Indiana and her family and James met Jared Austin Miller for the very first time.
[ early childhood ]
After his birth, things between his parents were quite rocky. At first, they tried getting back together. When they saw that wasn't happening, they decided to be good friends, so that Jared may have an easy life. Well, it wasn't so easy. He moved in with his mother and his grandmother out in Lover, and that was where he spent his first few years of life. This was also where Lisa met Doug, a wealthy lawyer. After dating for a year, they decided to tie the knot. Having one parent being the owner of a rather large business, and a step-father as a lawyer, and a real father as a wealthy business man, life was pretty good for Jared.
[ late childhood ]
When Jared would go and visit his father down in Indiana, he was used to it just being "the boys." That was the way it was, that was how he liked it. So, when this new woman showed up Jared wasn't too happy. Susan was a nice woman, and all, but she just... ruined everything. She was too nice. Too happy. Too... good. She was a vet, and owned her own practice. Yes yes, another rich one. So, Jared got even more than he needed. Jared didn't know that Susan and James had had something going for quite some time, though. And he was nine at the time, so at that point, it would've been... six years? They took a little longer to get married. So when Jared found out that Susan's daughter, Kait, was actually HIS half sister, he was shocked. He accepeted them both, though, because he'd always been a friendly kid.
[ teenage years ]
At age fifteen, Jared moved in with his father and Susan when they moved to Dodgersville with Kaitlyn. He wanted a change, to meet some new people. However, he sadly discovered that kids are the same everywhere. You can't be a sweet, funny, attractive guy without being called gay. Yes, he gets that about every day of his life.

"I'm sorry sir."
Austin dropped his phone. He couldn't even begin to fathom what he was just told on the phone. 'Brooklyn Reeves was just taken into intensive care. We assumed you knew her, since we found a picture of you two in her wallet. You're Austin Raines, I'm assuming?...' The conversation went on for about three minutes, but all he needed was that first sentence. Brooklyn. Intensive care. It wasn't possible... she couldn't die. Not now, not after everything, fuck no. So he stood, staring at his wall like an idiot, not quite sure what to do.
His first instinct was to break down and cry. Yeah, he had a side of him like that. Big ol' tough Austin Raines cried sometimes. Instead, he did a more sensible (sort of) thing. Austin bent down, picked up his phone, wallet, and keys, and sprinted out the door of his house. It was pouring down rain outside, and quite windy and cold. "Fuck you, April..." he muttered to himself. He sprinted down the steps, nearly fell flat on his face, and then ran to his car. Next thing he knew, he was inside and driving at a very unsafe speed down the street towards the highway. The hospital was a good twenty minutes away. Haha, not today son, not today.
At the rate that Austin had driven, it only took him around ten minutes to get to the hospital. He got out of the car, having parked two blocks away, and ran down the sidewalks. By the time he was at the door, he was completely soaking wet. Goign inside, he noted the bright lights, and the disgusting hospital smell of old people and bleach. Yummy.
"Brooklyn Reeves?" He asked the lady at the desk. She wasn't very attractive - old, lumpy, and an empty Happy Meal sat beside her. He impatiently drummed his fingers along the desk, "Room 216, third floor. But sir, she's in intensive care. You really aren't allowed to go and see her. But feel free to ... oh, damn." The woman's voice had gotten increasingly louder as Austin had gotten increasingly farther away. And before she could stop him, he was running up the stairs, too impatient to wait for the elevator. Soon, he came upon the third floor. Room 228, 226, 224... he counted them in his head as he strode quickly down the hall, getting disapproving looks from passing doctors and nurses. He stopped, and his heart seemed to stop as well as when he got to room 216. He glanced in the door. Some type of surgery was going on. Oh, God.
Suddenly, memories with the beautiful red head came flooding back to him. The first date, the first kiss... the two-month-anniversary fail... so many times he'd had with her that brought a smile to his face. However, the smile was absent now. Instead, these things made him want to cry.
Then it hit him.
What had even happened to her?! He hadn't listened on the phone and now he didn't even know what was wrong. Banging on the door, he awaited a response. He was going to find out what was wrong, and he'd be told now.
